Natural Gas, LPG or Oil?

Gas Boiler

GAS BOILERS

Gas boilers heat water in the same way as any other boiler type, the key difference being that they're powered by natural gas. If your property is connected to the gas network, you can have one installed.

Although it is gas that heats the house and water in the boiler, electricity is used to power specific parts and mechanisms of the central heating system such as the valve that lets gas flow into the combustion chamber, digital displays, and smart thermostats.

LPG Boiler

LPG BOILERS

An LPG boiler works the same way as a natural gas boiler, however you will need stored gas at your property for this option. Different storage options include bulk above ground or below ground or alternatively a gas bottle solution.

Oil Boiler

OIL BOILERS

An oil boiler works in a very similar way to a gas boiler. The fuel, in this case oil, is ignited in the combustion chamber and a heat exchanger warms up cold water, either from the mains in a combi system or from a cold water tank in a conventional system.

When installing an oil tank, the area should ideally be well-drained and the ground conditions solid and level. You should be able to easily access your oil tank to carry out any repairs and maintenance. Your heating oil tank should ideally be placed away from walls and guttering too.

 FAQs

  • A combination or ‘combi’ boiler is both a high efficiency water heater and a central heating boiler in a single compact unit. Combi boilers heat water directly from the mains when you turn on a tap, so you won’t need a hot water storage cylinder or a cold water storage tank in the roof space.

  • System boilers require a cylinder for storing hot water, however the major heating and hot water system components are built into the boiler itself, making it quicker and easier to install. In addition, there is no need for a tank in the loft, so it can be an option in a home with little or no loft space or where the space is earmarked for a conversion.

  • Regular boilers (sometimes known as heat only boilers) are ideally suited to homes that already have a traditional heating and hot water system which is linked to a separate hot water cylinder. These boilers also need a cold water storage tank in the loft to feed the hot water cylinder as well as a tank that maintains the water level of the central heating system

What our customers say about us

Having worked in the construction industry in England ,Wales and now Scotland, developing 8 properties between us, my wife and I would consider ourselves experienced within the industry. We have found them second to none within their field. They carried out a complex 2 boiler residential hot water & heating system which included both radiators and wet under floor heating system complete with low loss header, This system efficiently heats and provides hot water to a period 1872 Victorian property we renovated within Dunbar. We would recommend them and would 100% use them in new projects.”

Jonathan Celaschi

“The work involved a complete change of the existing manifolds for our existing system on both the ground floor and first floor together with installation of thermostats to regulate the temperature throughout the house.
The work was completed by Chris and Stevie in a very professional manner despite the ground floor manifold not being easily accessible. There were never any problems presented only solutions. The work was completed within the time given and we are extremely happy with the final outcome and would have no hesitation in using the company for any further work or indeed recommending them to others.”
